| Liner List - General Information April 2009 |
|
| What are Liners ? | |
| Liners are young plants from 3 to 18 ins tall now, usually grown in 9cm pots (about the size of a coffee mug) with well developed root systems that nurseries pot on into larger pots for sale 6 to 10 months later through garden centers. However, liners can also be planted out straight away and, especially in spring and early summer, establish quickly as the soil warms up and make good growth over the summer | |
| Why buy Liners ? | |
| Unlike bare root plants that can only be moved while they are dormant (October to April), liners can be planted at any time of year | |
| Liners are cheap. Most cost 3 or4 euro while an older plant in a 2 litre pot usually sells from 7 to 10 euro | |
| Small plants establish quickly and will not need as much watering if we get a dry summer. You don't get the 'instant impact' you would with a larger plant but you do have the fun and satisfaction of watching it grow. | |
| If you decide your plant would look better somewhere else, small plants from liners are easy to move. You could also use them as a temporary filler for a patio pot, window box etc. and plant out in the garden later. | |
| As they take up less space in the nursery, liners are usually available in larger quantities than bigger potted plants. This is can be relevant if you plan to use a lot of the same variety for groundcover, hedging or repeat planting. | |
| Liners are particularly suitable for Mail Order. They pack well and as they are so light, they are cheap to deliver. We can send between 50 and 70 liners in one large parcel by courier for 15 to 18 euro as opposed to about 7 plants from 2 litre pots as the earth and larger root-ball take up the space and weigh more. | |
| Liners by Mail Order | |
| All of the Liners listed on this drop down menu are available by mail order at any time of year as well as most Perennials and many of the plants on our Container Stock Lists. Bare root plants can be sent out from October to March. Our range of plants in liners changes regularly, so do check back or email if you have a special request. | |

| Packing and Delivery | |
| Delivery is by Fastway Couriers or An
Post. The plants are very carefully packed, each parcel
has a tracking number and should reach you 48 hours or less after leaving the nursery. We send out at the start of the week to avoid parcels being held in transit over the weekend. Delivery by Fastway Couriers is generally the most economical for liners at 15-18 per parcel of up to 70 small plants. A signature is required on delivery and also a telephone number, preferably a mobile, in case the driver needs directions. A local garage or shop may be willing to take delivery if arrangements are made in advance. With An Post, postage is charged by weight and as a rough guide: p&p is approx 12 for 10 plants, 15-20 for 20-25 plants, 30-35 for 50 plants. It is more expensive but you do not have to be at home to sign for delivery. |
|
| Payment | |
| We accept Visa, Mastercard and Laser. Otherwise, unless you already have an account with us, please enclose a "limit cheque", crossed and payable to Future Forests Ltd with your order. Leave the amount blank but write across the top "not to exceed uro (the amount you wish to spend)". We fill in the details when we send your plants and enclose a receipt with your order showing the exact amount the cheque was made out for. This avoids the hassle of refunds/credit notes should any plant have sold out, and it allows us to charge postage fairly. | |
